What to do during the lockout…

Thanks to CBC sports for this…

See the bottom middle? That will be me.

There would be no talk of…

… an NHL lock-out if the egotistic bonehead Bettman didn’t insist on keeping teams in non-viable markets – (the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes and crippled New York Islanders come to mind)

He is scum.

And both the owners and players are scum for letting this happen. Again.

There will be fans who, this time, won’t return.

Thanks, Gary.

Will Ottawa’s hatred of all things from Toronto…

… keep this bar from being a roaring success?

I’m not sure. But if past experience is any indication whatsoever, MLSE will have a tough sell on their hands to overcome the almost pathological anti-Toronto-ness here in the nation’s capital.

Looks like a pretty cool place to grab a pint and watch a game, though!

By the numbers:

Capacity: 476

Big screen TV: 25 feet diagonal

High-def TVs: 99

Beer taps: 78

Beverage options: 187

Part-time staff: 150

Patio seating: 80 to 120

Terrace seating: 30

Hey! That’s two posts in a row on a beer theme! Must be the hot temps.

Fool, flake and flop…

… are three words that I think best describe this selfish bastard (aka Tim Thomas)

What a moron. No one will take him after this. He is through. And I’m glad to see this Tea Partier hit the road.

I wonder what would happen if I went to my Director proudly declaring that I need a year off to concentrate on family, friends and faith (no, as I haven’t any – in the same way that Timmy seems to have – would have to think of another “f” word… hmmm…).

Yeah. I wouldn’t get too far.

How about free tickets?

That would be better than a half-assed corporate letter of mea culpa!

I’m sorry… I see what they are trying to do, but like their February swoon, they come up miserably short.

Don’t want to even think about hockey until next year.

I don’t really care who wins the Cup…

… but here are my fearless predictions:

First Round Matchups

1) NYR vs. 8) OTT

Rangers in 5. Sens aren’t in the same league… well, they are, but not, figuratively… goaltending will choke for the Schmens. Losing Neil for this series will hurt big time…Spezza will get arrested outside Madison Square for solicitation.

1) VAN vs. 8 LA

LA in 7 – upset of the playoffs – but aren’t we used to the CanYucks choking year after year? And yes, there will be riots.

2) BOS vs. 7 WSH

Bruins in 6. I hate both teams so maybe they’ll both be eliminated! Sigh. if ONLY that were possible…Tim Thomas will retain his sense of stupidity. Chara will still be the 2nd ugliest guy in the – right after Ovie…

2) STL vs. 7) SJ

I think the Blues are the real deal. Best goaltending in the league… and that wins Cups…they’ll take this series in 5. San Jose is useless in the playoffs.

3) FLA vs. 6) NJ

Yawn… Joisey in 5. Who cares?

3) PHX vs. 6) CHI

The surprising Coyotes will take the Hawks in 5. Phoenix may go deep… look for a Coyotes/Blues series to produce the Cup winner.

4) PIT vs. 5) PHI

Bad blood here. Can Sid the whiner stay healthy. How about Malkin, the other whiner? Pens in 7. maybe. Look for lots of fights. Blowhard Cherry will be happy.

4) NSH vs. 5) DET

NEVER COUNT OUT THE WINGS!!!! NEVER! They’ll take it in 6.

I think as much of Don Cherry…

…as I do morons like Pierre Polievre, Vic Toews and Dean Del Mastro… but his rant on Brian Burke (GM of the Leafs for those of you not-so-enlightened) was dead on the mark.

Leaf Nation has for a while bemoaned the lack of Canadian content on the team, and more specifically, Ontario talent. Now, I’m not going anti-American or anything, but it is quite strange that there is not one player on Canada’s team who is from Ontario!

Boy, if the Habs didn’t have a single Québécois on the squad, they would be separatists marching up and down St. Catherine Street demanding blood!

Man! It physically HURTS to agree with the buffoon!

But hey! The Buds beat the Habs last night and the Gunners downed Liverpool… so this weekend has been pretty fine thus far!

A follow-up to my post yesterday…

… about Tim Thomas being an idiot.

I don’t usually copy and paste an entire text, but this letter by former Chicago Bear Tim Wrightman is an example of how Thomas should have handled the Obama invitation.

Class. 100% Pure class.

I hope someone shows this to the Bruin Goalie…

Wrightman puts politics aside for White House reunion

October 06, 2011|By Fred Mitchell, Tribune reporter

Here is Wrightman’s message:

“Why I’m going to the White House: Out of all the players from the ’85 Bears arriving on October 7th, I would probably say I am the most conservative. I live in the reddest of red states (Idaho) and I make a living with guns (owner of Lazy Bear Ranch)…I am also not a fan of the policies of the current President; however this is a celebration for the achievement of a great football team not a political rally.

“I mean, did you really think it was appropriate for Marlon Brando to not accept the Oscar? I can differentiate between celebrating our team, the President and the Institution of the Presidency. Of course I played on the ‘smart side’ of the line of scrimmage. This is the Bears’ once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that has been given a second chance. Some people don’t realize our initial trip in 1986 was canceled because of the Challenger space shuttle accident. I think it was a classy thing for Obama to right the misfortune of our team. Besides, the White House is not President Obama’s house, it’s the people’s house.

“Some of my more notable teammates have stated various reasons they will not attend…and they have every right to have their own opinion and reasons for not going. ‘I’m not going because they didn’t invite our wives…’ Well, would you take the wife you had when we won or the newest one? ‘It was 25 years ago, let it go…’ Will you stop doing car commercials that say you were a Super Bowl Champ? And so what if it was 25 years ago …If winning the Super Bowl is so easy, how come the Bears haven’t won since?

“Further, I’m not so arrogant to think that by going to the White House people are going to believe I endorse the President. Nor do I believe my invitation will cause people to vote for President Obama just because I visited the White House. This is a great opportunity for me to see my fellow teammates one more time and as a conservative I never take myself out of the game. I always want an opportunity to discuss and to debate my positions. You never know whose mind you might change and decisions you may influence. Being together as a team and a country is the only way we can get through our current predicament… GO BEARS!”

Thanx to @ship1580 for pointing this out.

Tim Thomas, that is. What a complete moron. Typical Bruin.

C’mon. even given my political leanings, I sure as hell wouldn’t decline the honour of a visit to the White House – even during Dubya’s tenure… doncha love dogmatism?

Yup, for Hab fans…

… it has been that type of year…
