It's my understanding that the average US Democrat considers the LPC to be basically communists.

Even Democrats want a Jesus in every pot. They just seem nicer than Republicans because they're not quite so misanthropic. Canadian Liberals would appeal to the most hippie leftie Democrats, but by and large, a lightly religious, generally conservative will appeal to the majority of them.

I've spent time living and working in the US. I assure you that Democrats are less scary than Republicans, but not always by leaps and bounds.

I sure hope you're right about Obama beating Romney but don't underestimate the power that comes with real money in the States Especially now with the court rulings about corporations right to free speech. As for whether democrats will help Harper or The libs I expect there will be no increase in immigration from the states. I have spent quite a lot of time there and most people underestimate how much the common American truly believes their country is the best in the world.
AS a wise man once said no one ever went broke underestimating the common sense of the common American.

Harper is probably counting on it. On average a US democrat is quite a bit right of Harper. An influx of US democrats would strengthen Harper's position substantially.
