Seems like School Boards in Alberta are facing the same challenges as here…

I happened across a good article in the Edmonton Journal yesterday that could have been referring to Ontario instead of  Alberta.

It calls on the newly elected School Boards – they also had elections in the Fall – to face up to the fact that unless they become more transparent in their operations, are more assertive with the province and engage citizens more effectively, they will continue the slide into irrelevance.

School boards and trustees can either use their power as locally elected representatives to reinvigorate democracy at the local level and provide informed leadership in public education, or they will lose it by continuing to slide quietly into irrelevance.
I’ve been shouting this from the rooftops for a while now. I hope that at least some of the Trustees are listening… or reading the Edmonton Journal.
