When I was a kid, my mother had a Gremlin. I think it was in a discussion of that car that I first heard the term "POS"

Yes, someone else told me that too... I have a friend who works in China.

I'm not really surprised. Although the government might like some of my views (I don't support Tibet, for example, at least not in the way most people I've seen support it), a lot of what I post would make the average communist cringe.

Good points Squid-dude. I do check my privacy settings to ensure that they are what I want them to be and some little gremlin (the mythical being, not the car) hasn't changed anything.
Hey - did I mention to you that your site is blocked in China?

Four important points though:

1. It only indexes info you have available to everyone. If you don't have info available to everyone, the setting on the index check box doesn't matter.

2. The checkbox has been there for a while, so if your info is set to "Everyone", it's probably already been indexed multiple times. The internet never forgets.

3. Applications have the same visibility as the indexer, but don't have a separate checkbox... all the info that is set to "everyone" has been handed to every application the user has used.

4. Indexing notwithstanding, is anyone so much of an exhibitionist that they really want to have all their info visible to any ape who can find their name?

I say "don't worry about the index check box, set your privacy settings properly". I imagine you (Trashy) have done so, I certainly have from day one :) They can index me all they want, they get my name and gender.
