December 15th, 2009:

I am more than a little ashamed to be a Canuck…

While the rest of the planet is pleading countries like Canada to take a stand on GHG emissions, the Harperites are settling into their environmentally Neanderthal form.

Since I am somewhat lacking on the creative front at the present time, I quote a commenter on the cbc.ca site. What this dude is saying pretty much sums up how I and many Canadians, feel at the moment. Where is the paper bag?

For the first time in my life, I am embarrassed to be Canadian. I am embarrassed by my government and their flat-earth politics that cater to the oil industry.

And not just in terms of their backwardness regarding the pollution of our air and water. I am embarrassed at their policy of squandering our valuable oil reserves.

Other countries retain the ability to ensure that their reserves are extracted in a responsible manner that benefits the current and future citizens of their country. Our industry lapdogs sell it off to the highest investing foreign investor to extract as quickly as they wish. The foreign company gets the profits, we get one, maybe two, generations of wages.

I am embarrassed of what this country is becoming as our apathy permits the conservative lapdogs to sell out our reputation and non-renewable riches.

I tell my kids we live in the greatest country on earth. But, even at 7 years old, my son is already starting to question the flat-earth attitude. I guess the next thing to tell him is that, sometimes, the selfish greed of a few that don’t give a damn about future generations can rule the day.

Yeah. And how long can we put up with this?

I know Iggy et al haven’t been exactly inspiring, but can’t someone, ANYONE step up to the plate?

PLEASE?

Google and Facebook, sitting in a tree…k-i-s-s-i-n-g

I’m not one to buy into sinister rumours about unwanted intrusions into one’s on-line privacy, but this seems to be legit.

One of the things that I try to trust about Facebook is that they do protect my privacy according to the settings that I stipulate – i.e., who can see my “stuff”. But there is a little tick-box in one’s privacy settings that should be unticked unless you want your profile info to appear in Google searches.

Latest rumors suggest Facebook is up to compromise users privacy by automatically indexing all users info on Google. Facebook’s privacy features has been one of its strong suits since it began and millions of users trust that the personal information will not be shared with anyone unless permission is granted.

So will Facebook index all your info on Google?

In response to the “rumour”, Facebook posted the following response

There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile.

In case you think that this is an unwanted intrusion into your privacy and don’t want your name to be indexed by Facebook and pop up on Google there is simple solution –  just follow the steps below:

Step 1

Go to the Settings>Privacy Settings>Search

Step 2

If the Allow indexing box is checked for search engines, just uncheck it

In case you have already unchecked the privacy setting feature in past, recheck to ensure if it has changed with the new Privacy settings.

Thanks to cousin Christopher as well as the folks at Simple Thoughts, by Gaea Times for this info.
